Shane Turville – Master of Milo

Shane Turville is keeping the beat all around with BRONSON and Witchgrinder. I’m sure even as he typed some answers up for me it was to some beat.

What’s the first song you remember NEEDING to start tapping random objects near you?
I was really into Fear Factory around the age of 9-10 and when I first heard Resurrection I think I had the epiphany that I want to be a drummer. I built a mini drum-kit out of old Milo tins and used paint brushes to play it. My parents came in, saw this, and said “I think it’s about time we got you lessons”.

What challenges do you face drumming with 2 bands and how do you approach these?
Time management is the biggest hurdle with being in two very active bands. Everything is possible, just not all at the one time unfortunately. I’m always thankful that my band mates are so understanding. As long as I keep on top of bookings and let each band know of dates that I’m busy then I avoid double booking and causing problems.

If you could choose 3 musicians to start a band with, who would be your members?

  • Dan Tompkins (Skyharbor/TesseracT) Vox
  • Devin Townsend (S.Y.L./DTP) Backing Vox & Guits
  • Keshav Dhar (Skyharbor/many more) Guits & Producer

We wouldn’t need bass…

Most memorable drumming experience?
That would have to be playing at The Palace for House of Rock in Jan 2012. We covered the stage in smoke while our intro played, I walked out and sat down, counted the song in and started playing. About 30 seconds into the song the smoke started to clear and I could see the crowd, it was massive! Then I looked up and there was another floor of faces… then I kept looking up and there was even more people… Needless to say it threw my groove a little bit until I composed myself and got on with the show.

What 5 songs are currently on your high rotation?
I can only pick 5…?
Well okay, they’d have to be:

  • Adams Murmur by Cynic
  • Evolution by Skyharbor
  • Nocturne by TesseracT
  • Juular by Devin Townsend
  • I, the Creator by Monuments
